The golfing year started with a flurry of competitions. New Year’s Day saw 55 players compete across the courses for the RAF Cup & Prizes. Congratulations to Gerry Barr who picked up the first trophy of the year with an impressive 40 Stableford points on the Old. Seven others collected prize vouchers and Andy Stamm managed the best scratch score, also on the Old.

Andy Stamm’s steady form continued the next day in our first Medal of the year on the New course when he won Division 1 and best scratch again despite windy & eventually wet conditions which resulted in a CSS of 76 and reductions only for handicaps. Division 2 was won by Immediate Past Captain Joe Noble, who has evidently seen his form improve now that the responsibility of office has been lifted from his shoulders!

Saturday 4th January brought calmer and milder conditions for Medal 2, which best suited David McCrae & Mike Thorpe who won their respective Divisions, while best scratch was collected by Jason Thomson.

Competition Entries
Entry is now open for a Nine Hole Stableford to played over the front 9 holes of the Eden course white tees on Sunday 19th January. This is a qualifying competition for handicap purposes and is TCT eligible. Players should add their details to the entry sheet in the clubhouse prior to play and enter their scores in our clubhouse computer afterwards. There are no reserved tee times, players must arrange their own through the Links Trust.

Founders’ Day will be played on optional courses on Wednesday 5th February and entry details will be released next week. The next Medal fixtures are on Sunday 9th & Thursday 13th February. Our golfers will also have Winter Greensomes, Hibernation, Snowman, Winter Leagues scratch & handicap as well as Eclectic & bounce games including Monday Fellowship & Wednesday Golf to keep them occupied until springtime.

Secretary Retiral
Mark Richardson retired on Hogmanay and we wish him all the best for the future. He remains a member of the Club and assures us that he’ll be spending more time on the golf courses.

Ground Floor Toilets Refurbishment
The ground floor toilets are being refurbished from Monday 13th January and the project should be complete by Easter. From Monday, the entrance on The Links golf course side will be closed for a week and there will be no access to the Main Locker Room in the basement. Holders of these lockers should remove any items that they require including golf clubs by 6pm on Sunday 12th January. For one week, the Main Bar will also be closed and service will be upstairs from the Cocktail Bar in the Function Suite. The main entrance on Gibson Place should be used and access to the shop, notice-boards & day locker room will continue throughout. After the first phase of work is complete, the Main Bar & Locker Room will come back into use with access from the golf course entrance reinstated and the Reading Room door used to enter the bar.

Subscriptions & Fixture Cards
Thank you to those members who have settled their subscriptions. The direct debits will be collected around 21st January. We are finalising the fixture cards with the printers and will let everyone know when they are available.

Reciprocal arrangements with the St Regulus Ladies Golf Club
As announced towards the end of last year, our members will be able to use the facilities at St Regulus and vice versa. The logistics of how this will operate in practice will be communicated soon.

The Hogmanay function was sold out well in advance. We have received a lot of positive comments about the evening which is much appreciated and this well-established event is as popular as ever. We have an extensive programme lined up for the coming year, and to start off we have:

19th Hole Jazz will be in the Main Bar on Saturday 11th January from 7pm. The jazz schedule for the coming months will also be released soon.

We have a fun Casino Night with Black Jack & Roulette on Saturday 8th February. Tickets at £15 includes casino fun money are on sale from the bar or by e-mailing

Unfortunately our Burns Supper has hit a clash of dates with the Crail Burns Supper which means our organiser and some performers are unavailable. We are working to find a resolution and will inform members as soon as possible.

There will also be plenty of other events over the year from Valentine’s Dining to Himalayas putting, from a visit to the Kingsbarns R&A Test Centre to mixed social/family golf & bistro nights.
